
Cardinals Sweep Wright State

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State softball team swept the Wright State Raiders 8-0 and 2-1 Thursday afternoon at the BSU Softball Complex.
Ball State ended game one after five innings due to the eight-run rule. Seniors Kelli Jeziorski and Taylor Yancey each had singles up the middle in the first inning.
Abby Gross reached on an error by the shortstop and Jeziorski came around to score the first run of the game putting Ball State up 1-0. Elizabeth Milian delivered a sacrifice bunt that allowed Yancey to score to increase the BSU lead.
Yancey would start the charge again in the third inning with a single to centerfield. Once on base Yancey stole second and advanced to third on a hard infield hit by Abby Gross.
Milian came to the plate and drove the ball down the third base line to score Yancey for her second RBI of the game.
Allie Pennock recorded two RBI with a hit to left field increasing the Ball State lead to 7-0.
Yancey singled again in the fourth inning and would eventually score on a play at the plate to put the Cards up by eight runs. Yancey finished the game 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Amanda Pick won her fifth game of the season against the Raiders. Pick held Wright State to four hits while striking out six in just five innings.
In game two, each team went scoreless through five innings. In the bottom of the sixth Jeziorski reached on an error by the shortstop. Yancey got walked to put the go-ahead run in scoring position.
Gross singled to the left side of the field to score Jeziorski and put Ball State on top 1-0. Yancey stole third base to take Ball State's season total to 105 on the season. Milian drove Yancey home with a single to give the Cards the 2-0 lead.
Wright State battled back in the seventh, but came up short as Pick made a nice play at first base to throw out Jaqueline Macy to end the game.
Laura Masch got the start for the Cards. Masch recorded three strikeouts in the first three innings and only allowed two hits.
Milian came in for the final four innings and picked up the win for Ball State. The win takes Milian to 11-12 on the season.
Ball State returns to action as they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. to face the Mastodons in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 April 20.
