Brooke MacGillivary Earns Second Player Of The Week Honor
October 09, 2007 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. -- For the second time in 2007, Ball State sophomore forward Brooke MacGillivary has been named the Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week. The weekly award was announced Tuesday by the league office.
MacGillivary led Ball State to a 3-0 victory Saturday against Missouri State with the first hat trick of her collegiate career. She scored two goals in the first 10 minutes to give the Cardinals an early lead and added another goal four minutes before halftime.
The hat trick was the first by a Ball State player since Lindsay Quay scored three goals Oct. 14, 2006 in a win over Kent State. Both were natural hat tricks with each player scoring the three goals consecutively.
MacGillivary currently leads the Cardinals and ranks second in the MAC with eight goals on the season. Her 18 total points lead the team and rank fourth in the league. The sophomore forward also earned the Player of the Week award for the week of Sept. 17-23, when she tallied two goals and and two assists over a three-game stretch.
MacGillivary and the Cardinals (3-9, 1-4 MAC) return to action with a pair of conference games this weekend. Ball State will play Friday at Ohio and Sunday at Kent State. The team's final regular season home game is scheduled for Oct. 21 against Central Michigan.
