Tiffany Shifflett Named MAC Defensive Player Of The Week
October 23, 2007 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett has been named the Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league office.
Shifflett helped Ball State split a pair of conference games over the weekend. She made seven saves in Friday's loss at Miami and shut the RedHawks out in the second half. Shifflett then held Central Michigan scoreless through the first half of Sunday's 2-1 win, giving her back-to-back shutout halves. She finished the Central Michigan game with six saves to give her a total of 13 for the weekend.
Through 16 games in 2007, Shifflett has racked up 140 saves -- the fifth-highest single-season total in Ball State history. Her 140 saves rank second among MAC goalkeepers, and her .761 save percentage ranks third in the league. In her first season as a starting goalkeeper, she has played every minute in the cage for Ball State.
Shifflett is the first Cardinal this season to be honored as the MAC Defensive Player of the Week. Teammate and fellow sophomore Brooke MacGillivary has earned the league's Offensive Player of the Week award three times.
Ball State (5-11, 3-6 MAC) will close out its regular season Sunday at Missouri State before heading to Oxford, Ohio, next week for the MAC Tournament.
