Men's Golf Places 11th At Xavier Invitational

LOVELAND, Ohio -- The Ball State men's golf team posted a final-round score of 288 behind a mark of 70 from Brian Maurer to finish 11th overall at the Xavier Invitational.
Despite a second-round team score of 286 -- one of the lowest by any team Monday afternoon -- Marquette University sizzled for a second-round score of 266 as four players shot 68-or-better to take a two-stroke lead over Saint Mary's.
Marquette shot a 280 Tuesday to win by two strokes over Western Carolina and Campbell.
Individually for Ball State, Maurer posted rounds of 72-70-70 to finish 19th overall.
Ross Cosat was second for the Cardinals, at 44th with consecutive rounds of 73. Matt Schumaker and Andrew Rhodes tied for 49th, while Anthony Novak was 83th.
Eric Steger, playing as an individual,, tied for 67th.
