MacGillivary Picks Up Third MAC Player Of The Week Honor
October 16, 2007 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. -- For the second time in as many weeks and the third time this season, the Mid-American Conference office has named Ball State sophomore forward Brooke MacGillivary the Offensive Player of the Week for the sport of field hockey.
MacGillivary scored a career-high four goals Sunday as Ball State earned a 5-4 overtime victory at Kent State. The sophomore forward scored three of those goals after halftime -- including the game-winner eight minutes into overtime -- as the Cardinals overcame a two-goal second half deficit.
Two days earlier, MacGillivary had a hand in all three Ball State goals in a 4-3 loss at Ohio. She provided an assist on the Cardinals' first goal in the game and added two goals of her own later in the first half.
For the weekend, MacGillivary scored six of Ball State's eight goals and assisted on another. She has now scored nine goals over the Cardinals' past three games and leads the MAC with 14 goals on the season, matching the highest single-season total for a Ball State player since the 2003 season.
MacGillivary earned the league's Offensive Player of the Week award a week ago after her hat trick lifted Ball State to a 3-0 victory Oct. 6 over Missouri State. She also picked up the honor for the week of Sept. 17-23, after tallying two goals and two assists over a three-game stretch that week.
With Sunday's victory over Kent State, Ball State improved to 4-10 (2-5 MAC). The Cardinals are back in action Friday at Miami before returning to Muncie to host Central Michigan on Sunday in their final regular season home game.
