2006-07 Men's Basketball Schedule Features 14 Home Games; Trips To Las Vegas, San Diego & Washington D.C.
September 15, 2006 | Men's Basketball
The Ball State men's basketball team will travel from coast-to-coast this season as the team's official 2006-07 schedule was announced Friday by first-year BSU head coach Ronny Thompson.
The Cardinals' 30-game schedule is highlighted by trips to Las Vegas to play Kansas and Western Kentucky, a trip to Washington, D.C. to meet Georgetown and a match-up with Oklahoma State on a neutral court in San Diego, Calif.
"This is a tough, competitive schedule," Thompson says. "From day one, our team is going to be challenged with every game. I think the schedule is relevant to us widening our recruiting base. In building this program, I want to use scheduling to put our name on a national scene in different recruiting areas around the country."
The Georgetown contest will feature Thompson returning to his alma mater to play against his brother John Thompson III and the program his father, John Thompson, built to national prominence. Ronny Thompson played at Georgetown from 1989-1992 and was an assistant coach for the school from 1999-2003.
A 14-game home schedule opens Nov. 11 at Worthen Arena against Northern Colorado, before two straight games in Muncie against Prairie View A&M Nov. 19 and UT-Chattanooga Nov. 21 in the first games as part of the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational. Other non-conference home games include Indiana State, Valparaiso and Temple.
A new 16-game Mid-American Conference schedule begins Jan. 6 vs. Toledo in Muncie. The 2007 First Energy MAC Men's Basketball Tournament opens March 7 with all teams playing at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.
