Aug. 28 - Quay Player Of The Week
August 28, 2006 | Field Hockey
Ball State senior Lindsay Quay (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus H.S.) has been named the Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for her performance over the weekend in the Cardinals' first two matches of the season.
Quay scored Ball State's lone goal in the Cardinals' season-opener Saturday against William and Mary and added two more goals Sunday against Big 10 opponent Northwestern. After the season's first weekend, Quay leads the MAC with three goals and six points.
Against William and Mary, Quay broke a scoreless tie two minutes into the second half when she deflected a pass into the cage to put Ball State on the scoreboard first. In the Northwestern contest, she tied the match with her first goal at the 11:52 mark. Later, after Ball State had fallen behind, Quay brought the Cardinals within one goal on a breakaway in the final minute, splitting three defenders and knocking the ball into the back of the cage.
For the two games, Quay scored three of Ball State's four goals and logged eight of the team's 14 shots and six of the Cardinals' nine shots on goal.
The two-time All-MAC forward has picked up where she left off a season ago. Dating back to the 2005 campaign, Quay has scored at least one goal in six of Ball State's past eight matches. She has recorded a total of nine goals over that eight-match stretch.
Quay and the Cardinals return to action at BSU Turf Field Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest against Indiana, the third of five consecutive home matches to open the season.
