Troy Collier Joins BSU Men's Basketball Staff

Collier begins his duties immediately and joins assistant coach Steve Flint, who was named to Thompson's staff April 13.
"I am pleased Troy has joined our staff at Ball State," Thompson said. "Being from the Midwest, Troy is very familiar with recruiting the area. He's a hardworker with a great basketball mind. Troy will impact our program immediately."
Last season at Missouri State, Collier helped the Bears to a 22-9 overall record and a regular season runner-up finish at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Bears also advanced to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament.
As a member of Barry Hinson's staff at Missouri State, Collier was responsible for practice and game coaching, academics and recruiting, as well as the day-to-day operations of the basketball program. The Bears were a combined 77-48 during his four years. In his final three seasons, Missouri State averaged 20 wins a year, advanced to the finals of the MVC Tournament twice and played in the postseason twice.
Prior to Missouri State, Collier spent three years as an assistant to head coach Rick Samuels at Eastern Illinois. During Collier's EIU tenure, the Panthers were 21-10 in 2000-01 and won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament to advance to the 2001 NCAA Tournament.
A native of Danville, Ill., Collier earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from Eastern Illinois in 1994. He was a three-year Panther basketball letterman as a point guard for Samuels. Collier was the team's captain as a senior and helped the Panthers to the NCAA Tournament during the 1991-92 season.
Collier, who earned a master's degree in business and sports administration from Illinois in 1996, returned to Eastern Illinois in 1999 after three years as a human relations and labor relations representative for Hamilton Standard-United Technologies in Connecticut.
Collier and his wife, Hayonna, have one son, Aaron.
