Field Hockey Signs Three to National Letters of Intent

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State University head field hockey coach Annette Payne announced today the addition of three players to the 2006 squad. Caroline Lehman, Tiffany Shifflett and Jessica Woodward will join the Cardinals next fall.
"We are extremely excited about these three players becoming a part of our squad," Payne says. "They have the kind of talent and skills that can make an immediate impact, plus they bring strong character and personalities that will be great additions to this team."
Caroline Lehman (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area H.S.)
Lehman comes to Ball State after earning three letters under coach Wendy Riechenbach at Palmyra Area, where current back Amanda Pavone prepped. A goalkeeper, Lehman led her team to a Pennsylvania Class AA State Championship with a 27-1 overall record her senior year, making 74 saves while allowing only 11 goals against to earn first-team all-state and Mid-Penn Conference accolades, plus All-Lebanon County and second-team Big 11 honors. She helped her team to a 72-6-2 record during her career, including three district and league titles. In 2004, Lehman was named an Elizabethtown Tournament All-Star and a member of the PFHCA all-state second team, while making the 2005 PFHCA all-state first team. She was a member of the Mid-State field hockey club, plus participated in the USFHA Hockey Festival from 2002-05 and USFHA National Indoor Tournament from 2001-05.
Tiffany Shifflett (Yorktown, Va./Hampton Roads Academy)
A goalkeeper, Shifflett went 7-8-4 during her senior season at Hampton Roads Academy, where she earned five letters under coach Jean Scuddar. During 19 games played in 2005, Shifflett made 147 saves on her way to nine shutouts and a 1.61 GAA to earn first-team all-TCIS and Daily Press accolades. She also earned first-team TCIS from 2001-04, while garnering Daily Press second team honors from 2003-04 and first-team all-VISFHA in 2002 and 2004. Shifflett competed in 89 games with 749 saves, 33 shutouts, an .853 save percentage and a 1.39 GAA over her career. A member of the USFHA Futures program from 2002-06, Shifflett competed in the USFHA Regional Futures Tournament from 2002-04 and was a participant in three National Indoor Tournaments. She also took part in the 2004 AAU Junior Olympics, the 2005 National Field Hockey Festival and the Virginia Commonwealth Games from 2003-05.
Jessica Woodward (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood H.S.)
A forward, Woodward earned two letters at Crestwood under coach Elvetta Gemski. She helped the Comets to a third-place finish in the Wyoming Valley Conference as a senior after winning the state championship in 2003 and 2004. Woodward participated in the USFHA Futures program and was a 2005 Keystone Game member. Her sister, Kellie Rowker, was a four-year letterwinner (1988-91) in field hockey at Ball State.
