
Swimming and Diving Win Doug Coers Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State University men's and women's swimming and diving team captured the Doug Coers Invitational held at Lewellen Aquatic Center on Saturday (Nov. 18).
The men scored 643 points while the women finished the day with 722 points. Wisconsin-Milwaukee took second and IUPUI finished third.
After a strong showing on Friday night the Cardinals remained on top for Saturday's action after winning the 200 yard medley relay in day two's opening event.
Emily Hurst (Zionsville, Ind./North Central) clocked in a 4:36.24 to win the 400 IM while teammate Kyle Hembree (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) won the event for the men with a time of 4:12.54.
Erin Johnson (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) took first in the 100 fly (59.76) and Michelle Huang (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) earned a top spot in the 200 free 1:55.82.
Ben Karwoski (Bluffton, Ind./Bluffton) placed first in the 200 free (1:45.33).
Hurst grabbed her second first place finish of the day in the 100 breast (1:07.99).
Other Cardinals who collected top spots were Ryan Franklin (Crown Pointe, Ind./Lake Central), Brittany Sayler (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont), Eric Mattingly (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown), Meghan Patterson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), Adam Konopka (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) and Jacob Morris (Walton, Ind./Lewis Cass).
The women ended the day with a first place finish in the 400 yard free relay.
Zach Whitaker (Coatesville, Ind./North Putnam) took first place honors in the 1-meter dive with a top score of 280.15 while teammate Stephanie Paul (Mishwaka, Ind./Mishwaka) earned first place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 286.70. Paul's score qualified her for the NCAA Zone Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich., in March.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Dec. 1 at the House of Champions Invitational held in Indianapolis.
