Skip Mills Named To Preseason All-MAC Team
October 05, 2006 | Men's Basketball
Julien "Skip" Mills, a senior member of the 2006-07 Ball State men's basketball team, has been selected to the All Mid-American Conference Preseason Team as announced Thursday by the MAC Office. Voting for the teams was conducted among members of the MAC News Media Association.
"We are very happy for Skip to earn this preseason honor," says first-year head coach Ronny Thompson. "As a senior, Skip will be very valuable to us not only on the court, but with his leadership of our team. Skip is very deserving of this recognition."
Mills, who ended the 2005-06 season ranked fourth in the MAC in scoring, was the only BSU player to start all 28 games a year ago. He finished the year averaging 18.6 points per game after back-to-back career highs of 34 in a win at Eastern Michigan (March 4) and 38 points in the MAC Tournament at Buffalo (March 6).
The performance at Buffalo was the 46th double-figure scoring effort of his Ball State career and his 33rd in 36 games dating back to his sophomore season. For the year, Mills scored in double figures in 25 of BSU's 28 games and was the team's leading scorer in 17 of those games. He scored 20-or-more points nine times, including his last two 30-plus efforts.
In addition, Mills moved into ninth all-time in Ball State history for points scored by a junior with his 521 last season. He will enter his senior season in 2006-07 just 10 points shy of becoming the 23rd 1,000-point scorer in Ball State history.
The 2006-07 Preseason West Division representatives are James Hughes of Northern Illinois, Giordan Watson of Central Michigan, Justin Ingram of Toledo and Joe Reitz of Western Michigan.
The East Division squad is comprised of Leon Williams of Ohio, Romeo Travis of Akron, Yassin Idbihi of Buffalo, Martin Samarco of Bowling Green and Nathan Peavy of Miami.
The preseason All-MAC teams will be available for interviews at the conference's basketball media day, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland. The media portion of the schedule is set to begin at 9 a.m. Fans will also be able to watch the media preview live on the Internet at www.mac-sports.com.
