Oct. 16 - Quay Player Of The Week
October 16, 2006 | Field Hockey
Lindsay Quay (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus H.S.) was named the Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week Monday for her performance in Ball State's two weekend victories. It is the second time this season Quay has earned the honor.
Quay recorded a hat trick in Saturday's victory over Kent State, scoring the first three goals of the game. The senior forward opened the scoring with a goal at the 5:55 mark and added two more in the 14th minute and the 23rd minute. Quay also provided an assist on Ball State's final goal of the day as the Cardinals opened up a 4-0 lead and held on for a 4-2 win.
The hat trick was the first of the season for Quay and the second of her career. She also notched three goals Oct. 22, 2005 against Central Michigan.
With the three goals Saturday, Quay now has 10 for the season and 33 for her career. She is tied for tenth place in goals scored in Ball State history, two goals shy of moving into a tie for seventh place.
A day before her hat trick, Quay helped the Cardinals to a 3-2 win over conference-leading Ohio. She logged three shots as Ball State snapped a 14-game losing streak against the Bobcats, defeating Ohio for the first time since 2000.
The Player of the Week honor is the second of the season for Quay, who also earned the award Aug. 28 after scoring three goals in Ball State's season-opening weekend.
With the two victories Friday and Saturday, Ball State extended its winning streak to four games. The streak is the longest for the Cardinals since the 1999 season. Ball State is 4-2 in the MAC and tied with Miami for second place, a half game behind Ohio. The Cardinals travel to Miami on Tuesday. The winner will move into a tie for first place in the league.
