Field Hockey Shutout in Preseason Scrimmage at IU

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Ball State field hockey team lost 3-0 to Indiana University in a preseason scrimmage held Sunday, Aug. 21, at IU's Mellencamp Pavilion.
Indiana, which outshot Ball State 22-2 in the game, opened the scoring of the three-period contest with a goal at the 22:36 mark by Frederique Meeuwsen. The Hoosiers tallied another at 33:19 by Mallory Reabold, followed by Katie Kiper's scoring strike at 38:00.
Starting in goal for the Cardinals, junior Jessica Malone (Tabernacle, N.J./Shawnee) made 11 saves with just one goal against in 50 minutes of action. Senior goalkeeper Tracy Bannister (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) substituted in net for the final 25 minutes and completed three saves.
Registering shots for BSU were sophomore Theran Teach (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) and 2004 First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection junior Lindsay Quay (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus).
Ball State will open its 2005 regular-season schedule next weekend with dates at William & Mary and Virginia, Aug. 27 and 28, respectively.
