Field Hockey Signs Three Players to National Letters of Intent
February 18, 2005 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State field hockey head coach Annette Payne announced today the addition of three players to the 2005 squad. Casey Hunsicker, Jodi Mann and Melanie Pasillas will join the Cardinals next fall.
"We are truly excited about this class," Payne says. "We have players from the East and West coasts, all of whom are capable of making an immediate impact."
Casey Hunsicker (Myerstown, Pa./Tulpehocken H.S.)
Hunsicker will join the Cardinals following a successful high school career at Tulpehocken, where she was prepped by Sylvia Shunk. A four-year starter at forward, midfield and defense, she helped guide her school to four league playoff berths and four district tournaments plus the state tournament as a freshman. The Trojans' second-place conference (Berks-IV) finish in 2004 helped Hunsicker earn all-county and all-state honors as a senior -- she was named all-state honorable mention as a junior. She was a member of the bronze medal team in the AAU Junior Olympics and earned the ‘Pride of Tulpehocken' award in 2003. A Futures participant from 2003-05, Hunsicker also played in the National Futures Tournament twice (‘03 & ‘04) and was a member of Futures Elite from 2004-05.
Jodi Mann (Clifton, Va./Centreville H.S.)
Mann comes to Ball State with plenty of high school and club level playing experience. She earned three letters -- sophomore through senior years -- in field hockey at Centreville under head coach Kim Crouse, where she garnered all-district accolades each year, plus all-region as a junior from her midfield/defensive position. Mann helped the Wildcats to Concord District championships in 2002 and 2003, while also guiding them to a 2001 Northern Virginia Regional title. Her club experience includes participating in the 2003 National Futures Tournament and 2003 AAU Junior Olympics. Mann was also involved in the 2002-04 National Festival Tournaments and played in the National Indoor Tournament from 2002-05.
Melanie Pasillas (Glendora, Calif./Glendora H.S.)
A 5-2 midfielder, Pasillas registered six goals, five assists and 10 defensive saves as a senior under the direction of Sandie Cummings. The 2004 team captain helped lead her Glendora team to second place in the Golden West League and third in the CIF playoffs, earning all-tournament team honors as well as League MVP accolades along the way. Pasillas, who was named defensive captain as a junior, also notched the team's Defensive MVP award as the Tartans advanced to the CIF playoffs in 2003. She participated in the 2003-04 National Field Hockey Festivals and was also a member of Futures in 2004-05.
