Men's Basketball Rolls Past Anderson, 75-47
December 17, 2005 | Men's Basketball
Behind the game-high five steals from Mills, the Cardinals' 19 total steals matched the third-highest total in a game in the 85-year history of Ball State Basketball.
The defensive pressure forced 32 Anderson turnovers. On the other end, Ball State dished out 20 assists on their 28 baskets.
"I think we keep getting better and better," said BSU head coach Tim Buckley. "One of the things we talked about was that we wanted to have an assist per basket today. We really emphasized that."
Maurice Acker matched his brief collegiate-best with five assists, while Mills handed out a season-best four assists. Ball State shot 42 percent for the contest, including 82 percent from the free throw line.
"We just want to get better," Mills said. "We played well in spurts and the bench really played well to help out the starters. I think we showed improvements in many areas."
Mills drained his fourth three-point field goal in the first half with 1:22 remaining to give BSU its first double-figure lead at 38-26. The lead quickly grew to 20 points less than four and half minutes into the second stanza and reached a game-high 28 with the final score of 75-47.
Other than the game-high 23 points from Mills, 10 Cardinals reached the scoring column. Jalon Perryman had nine points, while Charles Bass and Anthony Newell each scored seven.
Landon Adler, playing in his first official game for Ball State, logged 11 minutes with six points and two steals. Brandon Lampley and D'Andre Peyton also chipped in six points each.
"I just have to be solid when I come in," Lampley said. "Maurice will probably make the big plays, I just have to be solid."
The Cardinals improve to 4-2 on the season and return to action with a 7:30 p.m. game Tuesday at Drexel.
