Field Hockey Falls 2-0 to Kent State in Final Home Game of Season

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State field hockey team (3-13, 2-7 MAC) fell 2-0 to Mid-American Conference-leading Kent State (7-12, 7-2 MAC) Thursday afternoon at the BSU Turf Field.
Kent State opened the scoring at the 29:55 mark with a tipped shot by Britt van Pelt on a pass by Charlotte Muller. Following the intermission, the Golden Flashes added their second goal as Elizabeth Lahey cleaned up a loose ball on the left side in front of the cage at 35:22 for the unassisted score.
Ball State freshman defender Jodi Mann (Clifton, Va./Centreville) made two defensive saves for the Cardinals, improving her season total to a team-leading three.
Junior forward Lindsay Quay (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) led the Cardinals with seven shots, five on-goal, while senior forward Chantelle Isaac (Clayton, Calif./Concord) finished with five total shots, three on-goal.
Senior goalkeeper Tracy Bannister (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) stopped four shots on the afternoon. Kent State goalkeeper Linz Markwart made 12 saves in her 70-minute shutout effort.
BSU outshot KSU 17-10 and held a 13-5 edge in penalty corners, but failed to convert.
Ball State concludes its regular season slate Sunday against Missouri State (3-12, 2-5 MAC) at 10 a.m. in Springfield, Mo., at the Plaster Sports Complex.
The Bears, who square-off with Miami Friday afternoon, are led offensively by Joann Westman's 10 points (5G) and Liz Miyashita's nine points (3G, 3A). Defensively, Missouri State is led by goalkeeper Kim Kinsella, who has a 3.20 GAA and has made 180 saves through 13 games played. BSU fell to MSU 2-1 Oct. 8 in Muncie.
