Men's Hoops Adds Transfer
August 21, 2002 | Men's Basketball
Dennis Trammell (Chicago, Ill./Westinghouse H.S.), who has spent the last two seasons at New Mexico State, has transferred to Ball State and joined the men's basketball program. Trammell is currently enrolled at Ball State, but due to NCAA regulations, will have to sit out the 2002-03 season.
“Dennis reminds me of Chris Williams and how he had to sit out his first year here,” said BSU head coach Tim Buckley. “He is a tremendous defender and also has the ability to put up some impressive offensive numbers. He's a winner who also comes from a successful high school program.”
Trammell, a 6-foot-3 guard, played in 32 games with five starts last season at New Mexico State and helped the Aggies to a 20-12 overall record. He averaged five points and two rebounds per contest. He recorded a career-high 21 points against Eastern New Mexico and scored in double figures five times, while leading the team in scoring twice.
At Westinghouse H.S., Trammell's team compiled a 100-3 record in three seasons, winning three Chicago Public League titles and two city championships. His team was the Class AA state runner-up as a senior and ranked ninth in the final USA Today national poll with a 32-2 record.
In addition, Aaron Austin (Chicago, Ill./Bloom Township H.S.), who was originally expected to join the BSU program from Central Florida Community College, failed to meet the graduation requirements at CFCC and will not be a member of the BSU program.
