Frederika Girsang begins her second season as a graduate assistant coach for the Ball State women’s tennis program.
A four-year letterwinner in tennis at Western Michigan University, Girsang was tabbed the 2003 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, which was the first time a WMU player had received the award since its inauguration in 1998. During her tennis career she also was named the 2001 MAC Newcomer of the Year and helped the Broncos to win the MAC championship (2001). Girsang was ranked nationally and regionally over her tenure with the Broncos with her highest ranking being 62.
Girsang was the 2003 singles champion at the ITA National Summer Championships and was runner-up in doubles play. She competed in the Riviera All-American Championship in Pacific Palisades, Calif., also in 2003.
She worked as a tennis pro at Aspen Athletic Clubs in Des Moines, Iowa, in the summer of 2006 and was a tennis pro in the summer of 2005 at the Quogue Filed Club in Hamptons, N.Y.
A native of Jakarta, Indonesia, Girsang earned a bachelors degree in recreation from Western Michigan in 2005. She is currently pursuing a masters degree in sports management.
The daughter of John and Kuncari Girsang, she has one brother, Alex who resides in Melbourne, Austrailia, and one sister, Leonita, who lives in Jakarta, Indonesia.
