Tanjuatco Clinches Ball State’s 5-2 Road Victory Over Bowling Green
March 27, 2026 | Women's Tennis
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Junior Isabel Tanjuatco delivered the deciding point at No. 3 singles to lead the Ball State women's tennis team (8-6, 1-2 MAC) to a 5-2 victory over Bowling Green (7-10, 1-3 MAC) on Friday afternoon at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The win marks the Falcons' first home loss of the season.
Ball State grabbed the early momentum by grinding out the doubles point. The No. 1 duo of Sarah Shahbaz and Tanjuatco cruised to a 6-2 win, while Sydney Hrehor and Asia Fontana matched that score at the No. 3 spot to secure the opening tally.
In a synchronized finish, both pairs wrapped up their matches around the same time, with Shahbaz and Tanjuatco officially clinching the point for the Cardinals. Ball State completed the doubles sweep winning on court No. 2 as Alana Bristow paired up with Gabriella Barrera for the 6-3 victory.
The Falcons initially pulled ahead 2-1 with wins on the top two singles courts, but Ball State responded quickly. Barrera leveled the match at 2-2 by sweeping Leticia Fonseca 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot. Building on that momentum, Fontana reclaimed the lead for the Cardinals with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over Libby Blair on court No. 4.
After that, Tanjuatco extended the advantage by defeating Kiera Taylor 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets, and Jemima Williams-Phillips secured the Cardinals' fifth point by pulling out a two-set tiebreaker.
Bowling Green managed two points on the day, but the Cardinals' depth across the board proved to be the difference-maker.
Ball State will look to carry this momentum into Sunday's #MACtion contest at Western Michigan. First serve is at noon in Kalamazoo.
