Vanis is the son of Dave and Evie Buckholz. Vanis is a general studies major, minoring in real estate/ property management.
Started playing volleyball: Sophomore year of high school
Favorite Volleyball memory: Beating Hawaii my freshman year and setting the Ball State volleyball record for highest kill percentage over 15 kills
Favorite trip you’ve been on/what is one place you dream of visiting: Hawaii with the team sophomore year. I would love to go to Dubai
Favorite food: Steak and asparagus
Dream job: Property manager
Plans after college: Playing volleyball professionally. Purchase my first rental property so I can start on my real estate journey early!
What sport would you be playing if you were not playing volleyball: Tennis
2025: Started 22-of-22 matches played ... averaged one kill per set, along with a hitting percentage of .339 ... averaged 0.98 blocks per set ... recorded seven blocks at Lindenwood (Feb. 20) ... credited for seven assists, eight service aces and 28 digs ... earned Academic All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors.
2024: Started in 10-of-10 matches played ... averaged .59 blocks per set… earned Academic All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors.
2023: Played 94 sets for the Cardinals…had 10 service aces…recorded 143 kills and 30 digs...had a season best nine kills against Lewis (4/1/23) … registered nine blocks versus Purdue Fort Wayne (2/18/23) … served up three aces against BYU (2/3/23)...majoring in general studies with a minor in real estate/property management…received invite to the USA National Development Team ... earned All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors.
2022: Played in 62 sets for the Cardinals … tallied 103 kills … averaged 1.66 kills per set … compiled a .478 hitting percentage off of 178 total attacks ... recorded five service aces and 54 total blocks … made first collegiate appearance against Maryville (1/13/22) … turned in a personal best kill performance with 13 in a win over national champion and then ranked No. 1 Hawai’i (1/29/22) … had 11 kills performances against national ranked BYU (2/4/22) and Ohio State (3/16/22) … had a season high seven total blocks against Hawai’i in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament (5/5/22) … helped the Cardinals win the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) regular season and tournament titles along with an automatic bye to the 2022 NCAA semifinal round ... earned Academic All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors.
High School: Started playing volleyball sophomore year of high school ... set the record for highest kill percentage at Corona Del Mar.
