Coaching Experience: Ball State, assistant, 2003-present ? 2001-02 - Defensive Coordinator NOTES: Helped Ball State’s defense contribute to a +1.31 turnover margin, which ranked fourth in the nation . . . Guided a defense which registered 19 interceptions, the fifth-best single-season mark in Ball State history . . . Tutored weakside linebacker Bryant Haines, who led Ball State in tackles and was an All-Mid-American Conference Second-Team selection . . . Smith spent his final two seasons at Indiana State as the defensive coordinator . . . Also coached the inside linebackers, defensive line and special teams at ISU . . . Coached six All-Americans, including Dan Brandenburg, a 1995 seventh-round draft pick of the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills . . . Helped Rose Hulman to a 1986 conference championship plus Bowling Green to league crowns in 1982 and 1985.
