- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant Coach
Former Ball State player C.J. Webb returns in 2008 for his second season as part of the Cardinals’ coaching staff. Webb, who wrapped up his collegiate playing career at Ball State in 2006, served as a student assistant in 2007 while earning his degree. This season, he will fill the role of volunteer assistant coach for the Cardinals.
"C.J. was a great player for us, and we’re happy to have him back for a second year as an assistant," says BSU head coach Greg Beals. "His energy for the game is a great asset to our program. C.J. will serve as our infield instructor and bench coach."
Webb was a part of one of the most successful teams in Ball State history as a senior in 2006. A third baseman who provided both outstanding defense and production at the plate, Webb helped the Cardinals to the first Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship in school history. The team went on to record an upset victory over No. 1 seed Kentucky at the Lexington Regional in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. Webb earned All-Tournament honors at the Regional.
After transferring to Ball State from Southwestern Illinois Community College for his final two years of eligibility, Webb started 113 of the Cardinals’ 115 games in 2005 and 2006. He hit .318 over his two seasons at Ball State with 13 home runs and 78 RBI. As a senior in 2006, he logged a .970 fielding percentage while committing just four errors in 58 games.
