The Cardinal Point System and 2024-25 Basketball Season Ticket Reseat Process
In order to enhance and reward giving in support of Ball State student-athletes, we’re proud to introduce a new Cardinal Point System that will comprehensively measure and reward the historic and ongoing loyalty, support, and affinity of our most dedicated supporters. This system will provide a framework for the equitable allocation of ticket assignments, priority parking, and donor experiences, beginning with a full reseat of men’s and women’s basketball season ticket locations prior to the 2024-25 basketball seasons. The Cardinal Varsity Club (or CVC) is the fundraising arm for Ball State athletics and provides an impactful experience for our 400+ student-athletes.
Ball State University operates on a fiscal year, which runs from July 1st – June 30th. Priority points will be awarded each year on July 1st based on contributions made in the prior fiscal year, i.e. by June 30. Your priority point ranking for 2024-25 basketball seat selection and any future priority-ranking event will be determined by (1) your current Cardinal Varsity Club membership level (i.e. Champions Circle, Victory, etc.), and (2) your total priority points as determined by giving history, season ticket ownership, and other categories as outlined below.
Please take a moment to read the information below, including information regarding priority points accumulation and the upcoming 2024-25 basketball season ticket reseat. A list of frequently asked questions is provided. If you have any questions regarding basketball season tickets, please contact the Ball State Athletics ticket office at 765.285.1474. Contributions to the Cardinal Varsity Club can be made online at cardinalvarsityclub.com. Renewing season ticket holders can place a $50 per-account deposit (or $5 per account for Emeritus/Honoratus ticket holders) at ballstatesports.com/myaccount. Frequently Asked Questions

II. The 2024 Basketball Reseat
I. The Cardinal Point System
What is the Cardinal Point System?
The Cardinal Point System is designed to reward support and affinity for Ball State Athletics. Donors will receive points based on their Cardinal Varsity Club membership level along with total cumulative points. The Cardinal Point System will be used to establish priority access for exclusive and/or high-demand Ball State Athletics events and opportunities, including but not limited to season ticket seat selection, postseason or bowl game ticket access, and priority parking.
When does the point system go into effect?
The Cardinal Point System will go into effect immediately following the June 30, 2024 deadline for 2024-25 basketball season ticket renewal and 2024-25 CVC membership.
How will the point system be used?
In general, the point system may be used to determine priority or “right of first refusal” for exclusive and/or high-demand Ball State Athletics events. The Cardinal Point System may be used for the following categories, as needed:
- Basketball season ticket assignments beginning immediately in 2024; football season ticket assignments will not be impacted in 2024, but may be impacted in future years.
- Football and Basketball parking assignments in high-priority areas (i.e. Gold Reserved spots)
- Away games and postseason contests (Bowl Games, NCAA Tournaments, Neutral Sites, etc. )
- Donor Experiences
With years of support for Cardinal Athletics, your point total will reflect historic giving and season ticket ownership. We will continue calculating points from your athletic donations and ticket ownership, along with your alumni and/or Athletics letterwinner/alumni status.
Why have 1995 and 2014 been selected as the starting dates for season ticket ownership and Athletics gifts, respectively?
We are deeply appreciative of your historic loyalty and support, and we have carefully considered the content of available records, along with the potential impact of unknown or incomplete season ticket records from prior to 1995. Upon review, we’ve selected 1995 as the earliest year of record for comprehensive season ticket data. We’ve selected 2014 as the starting points for Athletics gifts as 1) gifts made prior to 2014 would be unlikely to impact overall priority ranking, and 2) gifts made from 2014 to the present emphasize recent Athletics support and encompass contributions made to multiple recent Athletics projects and funds.
I’ve been an Emeritus/Honoratus season ticket holder for many years. Will I still receive credit for all of the years I’ve received complimentary season tickets?
Yes. Emeritus season ticket holders will receive the same season ticket ownership points as other ticket holders, and will be subject to the same rules for priority point rankings, i.e. (1) current Cardinal Varsity Club membership level, and (2) total priority points.
How do I know where I rank within the overall priority point system?
Following the June 30, 2024 deadline for Cardinal Varsity Club contributions, the Athletics ticket office will contact you with your priority ranking and related details. Please see below for an approximate ranking based on the Cardinal Varsity Club membership status of 2023-24 season ticket holders.
Your priority points and ranking will not be visible to the public. Priority points and rankings are subject to change based on gifts received by our Athletics Development Staff.
Can I transfer priority points?
Priority points will only be transferred to next a spouse, and this will be a one-time exception. The Ball State Athletics Department must approve all transfer of points and reserves the right to deny any changes.
Can I share any priority points with a Cardinal Varsity Club member?
No, you may not share any priority points you have accrued with another Cardinal Varsity Club member.
Will I earn priority points for myself if I donate to someone else’s Cardinal Varsity Club account?
No, all payments made on a Cardinal Varsity Club member’s account will accrue priority points for him/her. You will not receive any CVC credit, and it will not be reversible.
When is the deadline to make a gift or payment to earn priority points?
All contributions to the Cardinal Excellence Fund should be made by June 30, 2024 to be eligible for men’s and women’s basketball season ticket location selection for the 2024-25 season; seat selection will begin in mid-to-late July. Deadlines for future years and additional priority events will be determined as needed. Unless a priority points ranking event (such as the 2024 reseat) is announced, June 30 will continue to serve as the default deadline for contributions for the upcoming fiscal year.
Will I have the opportunity to receive charitable deductions made to Ball State Athletics?
Please consult with your tax advisor on whether your contribution is eligible for a tax deduction.
II. The 2024 Basketball Reseat
Worthen Arena’s retractable seats – original to the construction of the building, and currently comprising the first eight rows of sideline seating – will be replaced this summer. The new seats will provide Cardinals fans with a more comfortable viewing experience, but in the process of adding comfort and safety, Worthen Arena will lose over 150 seats throughout the lower seating bowl. Many of these seats are held as season tickets by longtime supporters, and it is now incumbent upon us to implement a solution that will provide equitable outcomes for all of our season ticket holders.
What is the first step in the reseat process?
There are two important first steps in the reseat process:
1. All men’s and women’s basketball season ticket holders in 2023-24 have received in invoice for a season ticket deposit (one single deposit per account, not per seat), due June 30, 2024. This may be paid via standard mail or online at ballstatesports.com/myaccount. A deposit must be placed in order to participate in the reseat process. The deposit will be $50 per account for standard paid ticket accounts, and $5 per account for Emeritus/Honoratus season ticket holders. In the case of the latter, the $5 payment will be considered your usual processing & handling payment for the year.
2. Because the primary sorting factor in seat selection order will be 2024-25 Cardinal Varsity Club membership level, it is imperative that the Ball State Foundation receive all 2024-25 contributions by the June 30, 2024 deadline. Please make your gift online at cardinalvarsityclub.com or contact the Cardinal Varsity Club at 765.285.8120 to pay via phone. Season ticket holders that are not Cardinal Varsity Club members will select seats once all CVC members have selected.
How do I know my ranking for seat selection? Will I be contacted with this information?
While the exact ranking will vary from the numbers presented below – and will vary for men’s and women’s basketball – your approximate seat selection priority for men’s basketball can be estimated as follows:
- Legends Circle ($10,000+): 1-10
- Athletic Director’s Circle ($5,000+): 11-25
- Coaches Circle ($2,500+): 26-60
- Champions Circle ($1,500+): 61-150
- Victory ($1,000+): 151-210
- Spirit ($500+): 211-250
- Centurion ($100+): 251-300
- Charter ($50+): 301-330
- Non-CVC members: 331+
When will I be able to select seats?
Seat selection will begin in mid-to-late July, and the process is expected to last for six to eight weeks.
Can I come in to pick my seats in person?
The construction of the new seats will take place throughout the spring and summer of 2024; the exact completion date is unknown and therefore, we cannot guarantee that in-person seat selection will be possible. We expect most seats to be selected in real time over the phone, with the use of a live, web-based seat map.
What if I’m not a CVC member?
Cardinal Varsity Club members making their 2024-25 contribution by the June 30, 2024 deadline will select seats before all non-members. Non-members will select seats according to years of season ticket ownership dating back to 1995. We expect non-members to select seats at some point in late August or early September.
What if I want to become a NEW season ticket holder? Am I last in line?
New season ticket holders may improve their selection opportunity in the same way as returning season ticket holders, by contributing to the Cardinal Varsity Club by June 30, 2024 and by placing a $50 deposit with the Ball State ticket office at 765.285.1474. While new season ticket holders will select after all returning ticket holders within a given membership level, they will have the opportunity to select seats before any ticket holders in lower membership levels.
Are courtside seats impacted?
Courtside seats will not be impacted by the 2024-25 reseat. Courtside seat holders will have the opportunity to renew their 2023-24 seats by the June 30, 2024 deadline, assuming the minimum annual Cardinal Varsity Club contribution of $1,500 per account (men’s basketball) or $100 per account (women’s basketball) is met. (You do not need to make separate donations for men's and women's basketball.) If any courtside seat holders do not renew by the June 30 deadline, courtside seats will be made available to other fans according to the same priority ranking system used for the reseat.
When will we do another reseat? What if I want to change seats for 2025-26?
Many college athletic departments conduct reseats on a regular basis. At this time, we do not have plans to conduct another full reseat in the immediate future; however, it is likely that we will conduct another reseat within the next 2-5 years. Upgrade/movement requests will be honored within a given timeframe prior to the 2025-26 season according to Cardinal Varsity Club membership level and Cardinal Priority Points ranking.
