April 09, 2026 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State track team welcomes 35 men's and women's programs from across Indiana and the Midwest this weekend, while hosting the "We Fly Challenge" on Friday and Saturday at the Briner Sports Complex. Among the 35 other teams participating this weekend are Mid-American Conference competitors Bowling Green, Miami, Ohio and Toledo, completing a mix of clubs and programs from various classifications.
The Cardinals, a month into their outdoor season, host the annual track meeting beginning with field events at 8:30 a.m., Friday, April 9. Friday's schedule includes hammer, discuss, javelin and high jump events for men's and women's teams. Ball State's high jump unit averages 1.70m as its best height, ranking No. 3 in the country among Division I teams. Freshman Nina Garner and sophomore Malina Miller both are ranked among top competitors in the Mid-American Conference. Another Ball State unit, its 400-meter hurdlers, currently rank 20th among Division I programs, and will compete on Saturday, April 10.
Saturday's full slate begins at 10 a.m. and features track and jump events through 8 p.m. Highlights in the day include the Cardinals' annual senior day recognition with 10 veteran seniors honored at 11:30 a.m.; and the youth fun run at 3:30 p.m., when elementary and middle school youth are encouraged to race to find "the fastest kids in Muncie!" Youth races will be conducted in 60-meter and 100-meter distances, with Charlie Cardinal leading the way.
For Ball State, the We Fly Challenge serves as the midway point of the outdoor schdule that consists of four more meets before the MAC Outdoor Championships, May 14-16, which are also hosted by Ball State this year.
