MVB Maintains Top MIVA Spot With Sweep Over Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The seventh-ranked Ball State men's volleyball team began its week of conference play at Robert F. Hyland Arena, securing a straight set victory (25-20, 25-18, 26-24) against No. 11 Lindenwood Thursday evening.
The Cardinals (19-3, 10-2 MIVA) maintain its position at the top of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association standings with the win, completing the regular season sweep over the Lions (17-4, 8-3 MIVA) and handing the team its first loss at home this season.
Ball State dictated the pace of the match, finishing with a .406 hitting percentage while limiting Lindenwood to a .167 clip. Junior setter Lucas Machado fueled the efficient attack, orchestrating the offense with 24 assists and adding three kills of his own.
Ryan Louis led the Cardinals' attack, hammering down nine kills on a.438 hitting percentage. Patrick Rogers followed with eight kills on a .353 clip. Braydon Savitski-Lynde contributed six kills on a match-high .750 clip.
The Cardinals' defensive effort once again made the difference, as BSU out-blocked the Lions 9.5-4.0. Will Patterson led Ball State with six blocks. Rogers, Machado and Wil Basilio each contributed three individually, and Louis and Savitski-Lynde added one. Rogers and Machado paced Ball State with five digs each, while Louis added four.
Ball State set the tone early in the opening frame, totaling 5.5 blocks as a unit while Patterson led the frame with four kills and a trio of stops at the net. The Cardinals stayed hot in the second set, hitting .348 as a team and benefiting from seven Lions service errors.
After Lindenwood erased a late lead to tie the game at 24-24 in the final set, A clutch kill from Savitski-Lynde gave the Cardinals match point before a triple block by Rogers, Patterson, and Machado shut the door on the Lions to seal the win.
The Cardinals look to close their road schedule with a trip to McKendree Saturday, March 28. First serve is slated for 5 p.m. ET.
