March 01, 2026 | Baseball
MANOA, Hawaii – The Ball State baseball team couldn't get the offense going in a 6-0 setback to Hawaii on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Cardinals (5-6) got singles from Jacob Gillis in the first inning and Ryan Muizelarr in the seventh but only managed those two baserunners as Hawaii (8-4) secured the series win in the Sunday finale.
Jeremy Jones (1-1) started on the mound for the Cardinals and allowed three hits and three runs in 1.2 innings to be hit with the loss. Owen Quinn followed in relief with five strikeouts in 4.1 shutout frames with two hits, while Alex Burden worked a scoreless seventh inning.
Quinn increased his scoreless innings stretch to 12 to start the season, and Burden dropped his ERA down to 3.12 in 8.2 frames to begin the year.
The Rainbow Warriors started the scoring on a solo home run by Elijah Ickes in the bottom of the first before an RBI single from Tate Shimao and a runner scoring on a double play in the second gave the hosts a 3-0 advantage after two innings. Hawaii tacked on three insurance runs in the eighth on two run-scoring singles and an RBI sac bunt.
Liam O'Brien (1-1) struck out seven in 8.0 shutout frames to earn the win for the Rainbow Warriors.
Ball State next returns home to host Central Michigan on Friday afternoon for the Mid-American Conference and home opener.
