Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep at Ohio
October 17, 2026 | Women's Volleyball
ATHENS, Ohio - - With Ohio poised to even the match leading 22-21 in the second set, the Ball State women's volleyball team found another gear Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
The Cardinals (14-5, 5-3 Mid-American Conference) answered with four of the final five points and never looked back in another dominating sweep of the Bobcats (11-8; 4-4 MAC), this time by a score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-15).
"We've worked really hard the last 10 days trying to figure out how do we get into a rhythm, how do we build some chemistry," head coach Kelli Miller Phillips said. "This weekend, I felt like we were focused on the right things, playing very composed and being the team we are capable of being. I am very proud of this group."
Ball State finished the match hitting .301 (40-12-93) as a team, led by senior middles Camyrn Wise and Gwen Crull who hit .700 (7-0-10) and .667 (8-0-12), respectively. Junior outside Ava Smith was the team leader in kills, at 10, while freshman outside Merritt Sliwa added a career-high nine markers.
The effort was guided by senior setter Lindsey Green who dished out a season-high 31 assists and had a huge afternoon at the net with four total blocks, including a solo stuff. Green rounded out her stat line with six digs, and a kill.
Rounding out Ball State's key contributors on offense were junior opposite Tiffany Snook with five kills and freshman outside Mallory Pike with two more service aces.
Overall, the Cardinals defense limited the Ohio attack to a .128 (31-19-94) rate of success, thanks in part to a career-high three solo blocks from Sliwa. In addition, junior libero Sophie Ledbetter paced all players with 20 digs.
Torre Kildow and Emily Waddell led the Bobcats' attack with six kills apiece, while Rowan Kelly and Gentry Brown tied for team-high honors with six digs.
It will be another quick turnaround for the Ball State women's volleyball team as it travels to Miami for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
