October 14, 2026 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. — The Ball State University field hockey team is gearing up for a thrilling weekend at the Briner Sports Complex as they welcome two formidable Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponents. Energized and ready to make a statement in front of their home crowd, the Cardinals will host league-leader UMass on Friday, Oct. 16, before facing longtime rival Miami University (OH) on Sunday, Oct. 18. Both matchups are scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
Friday's game against UMass marks only the third meeting between the two programs since 2000. The Minutewomen have controlled the recent series, capturing a 3-1 victory in 2000 and a dominant 7-0 win last season in Amherst. UMass rolls into Muncie at the top of the MAC standings, boasting a 13-1 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play.
The excitement continues Sunday with Ball State's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game against Miami. This fierce rivalry dates back to Oct. 9, 1974, with the RedHawks holding a 32-17 all-time advantage over the Cardinals. Ball State will look to break a long drought against Miami, aiming for their first victory over the RedHawks since 2011. Miami enters the contest with an 8-4 overall record and a 4-1 standing in the MAC.
Fans are encouraged to pack the stands and wear pink on Sunday to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Following this weekend's action, the Cardinals will wrap up their home schedule next week against Ohio on Oct. 23 and Queens University on Oct. 25.
