Offense Shines as Men’s Volleyball Remains Perfect at Home

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The 12th-ranked Ball State men's volleyball team turned in its second-highest attack percentage of the season, at .432 (40-8-74), to soar over No. 20 Charleston Friday evening at Worthen Arena.
The victory moved the Cardinals to 6-1 overall under first-year head coach Mike Iandolo and upped the team's home record to 5-0. The Golden Eagles, where Iandolo was head coach from 2019-2021, fell to 2-3 with the loss.
Leading the way for Ball State's attack Friday night were senior outside Patrick Rogers and sophomore opposite Ryan Louis with 11 and nine kills, respectively. Rogers hit .562 (11-2-16) win the win, while adding six digs, three service aces and a block assist for a match-best 14.5 points.
Louis finished the night with a .300 (9-3-20) hitting mark, while adding two aces, two blocks and a dig.
In addition to setting the offense to its .432 hitting mark with 30 assists, junior setter Lucas Machado collected five kills, three aces, three digs and a pair of blocks. He also hit a match-best .833 (5-0-6).
Overall, the Cardinals served up a season-high nine total aces. The final of which was served up by junior middle Jacob Surette. Surette also tagged three kills and earned a pair of blocks.
On the defensive front, the Cardinals limited Charleston to a .210 rate of success. Lucas Torres paced the Golden Eagles with 10 kills, while Samuel Alo added nine.
Ball State senior libero Victor Scherer was credited with five digs, one shy of junior opposite Braydon Savitski-Lynde who tied for match-high honors with six. Savitsky-Lynde also collected five kills and hit .400 (5-1-10) for the match.
The Ball State men's volleyball team, which only trailed by one point twice in the victory, returns to action next Friday (Jan. 30) when it heads to Fairfax, Virginia, to battle Maryland Eastern Shore at 3 p.m. in a match hosted at George Mason. The Cardinals will play the host Patriots next Saturday (Jan. 31) at 5 p.m.
