Track Team Ventures to Indy for Indoor Season's First Big Competition
January 15, 2026 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State runners, jumpers and throwers join student-athletes from nine different schools this weekend to compete in the Hoosier Horsepower Classic, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion, located on the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Action with Ball State student-athletes gets underway at 12:15 p.m., Friday, with four Cardinals competing in the weight throw competition. Ten events will feature Cardinals' athletes on Friday, plus finals and five more events on Saturday. Numerous Ball State athletes will compete for the first time in the 2025-26 indoor season, which began in December and continued last week with three smaller meets with three schools competing in each.
In Indy, at the recently constructed Fall Creek Pavilion which housed the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships last winter, Ball State will compete against participants from Butler, Dayton, Illinois, IU-Indy, Lewis University, Judson (Ill.), Miami (OH), and Western Michigan. Select field events are divided into a Collegiate Division and a more elite Invite Division.
"We're excited to be back at full strength this weekend as we head to the fairgrounds in Indianapolis," said Cardinals head track coach Adrian Wheatley. "This is a great opportunity for our veterans to compete against strong conference and non-conference programs and really test where we're at early in the season. The focus stays the same to execute what we've been building in training, but now we get to do it in a live, competitive setting. And that's always something this group feeds off of."
