Chester Scores Two Goals to Up Season Total to Six
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team got out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals from Addie Chester and finished with a 2-2 draw against Butler on Sunday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals (2-2-1) went into halftime up by two scores on the visiting Bulldogs (2-1-2) who tallied goals within minutes of each other later in the second half to provide for an even final score.
Chester, who was one of 10 student-athletes honored pregame on Senior Day, stole a Butler pass at the top of the box and found the back of the net in the 10th minute for the first offense of the day. The Muncie native later scored her sixth goal of the season in the fifth match off a long pass from defender Jordyn Klaasen to put the Cardinals ahead by two in the 35th minute.
Graduate student Abby Jenkins went the full 90 minutes in goal for Ball State and made three saves in the first half and two in the second half. Butler's Addison Ash also played the whole game, surrendering the two goals.
Norah Jacomen and Talia Sommer scored the goals for the Bulldogs, who tied for the second straight match against an in-state opponent (Purdue on Aug. 24).
Joining Jenkins in playing the entire contest for the Cardinals were Chester and defenders Delaney Ahearn, Grier Isaacson and Jordyn Klaasen. Senior forward Delaney Caldwell was another Ball State player to take two shots on the day.
The Bulldogs took more shots (17-7) than the hosts, placing seven of them on goal, and were rewarded with four corner kicks to Ball State's one. Each team was whistled six times for being offsides, while Ball State committed more fouls (9-4).
Next up for the Cardinals is a road contest at Purdue Fort Wayne at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
