Grego Named a Semifinalist for Brooks Wallace Award
May 21, 2025 | Baseball
Dylan Grego has been named a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Wednesday afternoon.
Grego is 1 of 30 shortstops to be recognized as in contention for the award which honors the nation's top shortstop.
"Dylan is having a fantastic season!" Ball State head coach Rich Maloney said. "He has been equally good right-handed and left-handed at the plate which is a rare combination. He has been amazing defensively. He has played at a high level in every facet of the game as well as being a clutch hitter."
A junior out of Kansas City, Mo., Grego was voted All-MAC earlier this week on the First Team and Defensive Team. The switch hitter enters postseason play with the most hits in the Mid-American Conference and 16th-most in NCAA Division I at 85.
Grego has posted a .371 batting average, .427 on base percentage, .616 slugging percentage, 13 home runs, 13 doubles, two triples, 52 RBI, 54 runs scored and 13 stolen bases in his junior campaign.
Finalists for the award will be announced on June 4. Ball State baseball alumnus Michael Hallquist was a finalist for the 2024 season.
