Women’s Tennis Earns Comeback Win at Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State women's tennis team (8-7, 3-3 MAC) completed its two-match series sweep over Western Michigan (11-9, 2-3 MAC) Friday afternoon at the West Hills Athletic Club.
The Cardinals started doubles off strong against the Broncos taking the first match over Western Michigan. Isabel Tanjuatco alongside Sarah Shahbaz did not give up a game against WMU's No. 2 duo Marielou Baudouin and Christine Gows winning the match 6-0. After that, WMU would take the next two courts from BSU to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Tanjuatco was able to knot the match 1-1 against the Broncos with her straight-set defeat over Baudouin. Tanjuatco took both sets by a score of 6-1. Elena Malykh came back to take a three set thriller on the top court versus Lola Glantz, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 which ended up making it a 3-2 score. Shortly after, Chloe Brown knotted the match 3-3 one last time as she tallied the three frame victory at No. 3 singles over Frida Weijerman, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3.
After that, Jemimia Williams-Phillips then captured the deciding match point by winning a two set tiebreaker over Christine Gouws on court No. 2.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action when it takes on Miami University on Sunday at noon in Oxford, Ohio.
