Cardinals Add Former IHSAA State Champ to Men's Golf Roster for 2025-26

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State men's golf coach Mike Fleck has announced the signing of Aidan Gutierrez, a former Indiana state champion golfer who transfers from Baylor University.
The 2022 IHSAA state champion while representing Valparaiso High School, Gutierrez attended Baylor University where he averaged 76.00 over 15 competitive rounds this past season. He fired a low round of 68 and landed his best finish at the Minnesota Golf Classic (71-76-74—221) where he tied for 24th place out of 106 golfers.
Gutierrez transfers to Ball State with three years of eligibility.
"Aidan is an elite player with a champion mindset and approach," said Fleck, the veteran Cardinals coach who has guided Ball State to three consecutive top-two finishes in the Mid-American Conference. "He is a proven winner and was a heavily recruited player coming out of the state of Indiana. He will be an awesome addition to our roster as we look towards a group of younger and talented players to keep our championship level expectations going. We are excited to attract Aidan to Ball State and I'm looking forward to watching him learn and grow in our program."
Gutierrez had a stellar junior career while at Valparaiso, earning top-five finishes at the IHSAA state finals three times. He finished tied for second at the IHSAA state championship last spring, and carded a solo fifth-place finish in the 2023 IHSAA state finals on the strength of an opening-round 67. As a sophomore, he captured the 2022 IHSAA title with a final-round 67 to get into a playoff, which he won with a birdie on the third playoff hole. He tied for 29th at the prestigious Pete and Alice Dye Junior Invitational in 2023.
