Baseball Suffers Midweek Setback to Indiana in Indianapolis
April 23, 2025 | Baseball
INDIANAPOLIS – The Ball State baseball team got out to a 2-1 lead but fell 14-4 to Indiana on Wednesday night at Victory Field.
The Cardinals (29-13) scored twice in the second inning on a two-run single by Max Kalk that brought in Garrett Arnold and Ty Davis to take the early edge over the Hoosiers (23-18), who pulled away with a three-run fourth and a nine-run fifth frame.
Blake Bevis plated Brayden Huebner with a single up the middle in the seventh before Alex Richter drove in DJ Scheumann on a hit by pitch, which was his 23rd of the year. Richter is now one away from tying the single season HBP record in Ball State baseball history.
Brendan Garza struck out three in 2.1 innings of two-run ball in his initial collegiate start, while Zach Kwasny and Lucas Letsinger came on in the later innings to each strike out a pair of Hoosiers in scoreless appearances.
Drue Young (0-4) suffered the loss after allowing three runs in an inning. Indiana's Ryan Kraft (1-1) was credited with the win after tossing a scoreless inning in the third.
Ball State is next scheduled to return to Mid-American Conference play and begin a series at Central Michigan at 3 p.m. on Friday.
