April 12, 2025 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Nathaniel Webster recorded a thrilling come-from-behind victory on the top court Saturday afternoon in front of one of the Cardinals' largest crowds but it wasn't enough as the UIC Flames pulled off the 5-2 defeat over Ball State at the Foster Adams Family Tennis Center and Bill Richards Tennis Courts.
The Flames jumped out to a quick start by winning the doubles point over the Cardinals. UIC took court one from Ball State by a score of 6-1 and then court No. 2 soon after by a 6-2 decision to clinch the deciding point.
Not all was lost though, as Andrew Hayward alongside Sajin Smith were knotted 4-4 over UIC's No. 3 twosome of Mihailo Savic and Simon Knezevic before play was abandoned.
In singles, the Flames won on courts six, two, three and five, respectively to claim today's victory.
Ian Brady tallied a straight frame defeat at the No. 4 slot against Savic, 7-6, 6-0 for BSU. Webster also won finishing his match off strong at No. 1 singles after dropping his first set to Artem Alekseychuk, 6-1. He then came back with a vengeance winning set two 6-1 and set three, 6-3.
The Ball State men's tennis team will compete at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Tournament on Saturday, April 19 at 10 a.m. ET as the No. 4 seed when it faces the No. 1 seeded Buffalo Bulls in Kalamazoo on the campus of Western Michigan.
