
Women’s Tennis Completes Comeback Victory Over Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Ball State women's tennis team (6-4) clinched a victory in spectacular fashion on Saturday afternoon, coming back from being down 3-1 to defeat Middle Tennessee (8-5) 4-3 on the road at the Adams Tennis Complex.
The Blue Raiders opened the match taking doubles victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 position to claim the first point of the match.
The Cardinals began their comeback in singles with Isabel Tanjuatco breezing through her match over Middle Tennessee's No. 5 singles player Cassidy Mataia, 6-2, 6-3. Middle Tennessee then increased its lead to 3-1 after taking courts No. 1 and No. 6, respectively.
Ball State had to dig deep and dig they did, as the Cardinals captured victories on the remaining three courts. Jemima Williams-Phillips took a highly competitive first frame from Ilaria Sposetti at the No. 2 slot by a 7-6 (7-4) decision. Williams-Phillips went on to win the match in the second frame, 6-0.
Chloe Brown tallied a three-set thriller to knot the score 3-3 at No. 4 singles which left the team win up to Sarah Shahbaz on court No. 3. Shahbaz came up with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) defeat against Lena Meyer to clinch match point for the Cardinals.
The Ball State women's tennis team opens Mid-American Conference action up at home next Sunday, March 16 against Western Michigan. First serve is at 1 pm ET.
