
Women’s Tennis Suffers 4-3 Heartbreaker at EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State women's tennis team (8-4, 2-1 MAC) dropped its first Mid-American Conference match of the season when it fell by a 4-3 decision at Eastern Michigan (8-8, 1-2 MAC) Sunday afternoon at The Chippewas Club.
The Cardinals got off to a hot start dominating doubles play and earning the first point of the match. First to exit the court was Ball State's No. 2 doubles tandem of Sarah Shahbaz and Isabel Tanjuatco as the duo took down the Eagles' Viktorie Hazmukova and Marta Komar, 6-1. After that, Ella Hazelbaker alongside partner Elena Malykh defeated Lara Diaz Zayas and Daniella Shved by a score of 6-4 at the No. 3 slot to clinch the doubles competition.
In singles, Eastern Michigan completed its comeback victory by taking four of the six courts from Ball State.
The two singles victories for the Cardinals were Chloe Brown who won a three-set thriller over Sabina Brichackova at No. 4 singles, 1-6, 6-0, 6-4. Alana Bristow beat Saenko in straight sets at the No. 6 slot, 6-3, 6-1.
The Ball State women's tennis team returns home when it hosts Buffalo Friday for a 1 pm ET first serve. The Cardinals will either play at the Ball State Tennis Facility (indoors) or at the Foster Adams Family Tennis Complex and Bill Richards Tennis Courts (outdoors).
