Men’s Tennis Defeats Villanova in the Golden State

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Ball State men's tennis team (7-4) earned a 5-2 victory in a dual match against Villanova (1-8) Sunday afternoon on their spring break trip in La Jolla.
Mason Tran and Jacks Lancaster were the first duo off the court as the No. 1 twosome captured a 6-1 defeat against Villanova's Will Monahan and Justin Frattarelli. The Wildcats took court No. 3 from BSU to even doubles play but the Cardinals' No. 2 doubles tandem of Ian Brady and Andrew Hayward won a 7-6 (7-1) tiebreaker that would clinch the deciding doubles point for Ball State.
Broc Fletcher pushed the Cardinals lead to 2-0 with his straight frame defeat at No. 6 singles. Nathaniel Webster followed suit on the top court increasing BSU's cushion to 3-0. Tran then came through for the Cardinals at the No. 3 slot beating Will Monahan, 7-5, 6-4 clinching match point for Ball State.
Rounding out the singles wins today was Brady at the No. 5 spot as he took home a three-set thriller against Kush Anand, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
The Ball State men's tennis team returns home Friday in dual action when it opens Mid-American Conference action against Toledo. First serve is at 1 pm ET.
