January 18, 2025 | Men's Tennis
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker at in-state rival Indiana University Saturday evening falling to the Hoosiers by a score of 4-3.
The Cardinals lost on courts two and three in that order to give the Hoosiers the doubles point and the early 1-0 lead. Despite losing doubles, Jacks Lancaster alongside teammate Mason Tran put up a good fight on the top court as the score was knotted 5-5 against IU's Fecund Yunis and Sam Scherer before the match went unfinished.
In singles, IU won quickly at the No. 2 and No. 5 slots to expand its lead over BSU, 3-0.
After that, Nathaniel Webster tallied a straight set, 6-3, 7-5, take down against the Hoosiers' No. 1 player, Jim van Assendelft. Petar Petrovic followed suite on court No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory versus Karan Raghavendra to bridge the game to 3-2.
But the Hoosiers stopped the Cardinals in their tracks from making a comeback and would win on court No. 4 to clinch match point.
Sajin Smith ended the competition on a high note for Ball State by beating Deacon Thomas in a two-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
