Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Action at Belmont Invitational Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Ball State women's tennis team opened its fall portion of its schedule this weekend at a three-day event hosted by Belmont.
The Cardinals played three rounds of doubles and three rounds of singles over a three-day span which began Friday evening.
On Friday, the Cardinals took two of the three doubles matches from Lipscomb. Sarah Shahbaz paired up with Isabel Tanjuatco for the 6-4 win over the Bison's duo of Mary Dolzhenko and Sofia Paladi. The Cardinals newcomer Chloe Brown teamed up with Elena Malykh for a 7-6 (4) defeat versus Lipscomb's Serafima Bobrovnikova and Kameliia Tytarenko.
Saturday's competition was a round of both singles and doubles. Malykh took down Jana Rovira of ETSU in a three set thriller, 6-2, 1-6, 10-4 while Shahbaz and Tanjuatco won their doubles competition over Northern Alabama by a 7-6 decision.
Ball State closed out play on Sunday with singles matches against Lipscomb and Eastern Kentucky. Brown went 2-0 today against her respective opponents while Shahbaz and Tanjuatco rounded out today's singles victories for the Cardinals, each winning one apiece.
The Ball State women's tennis team will return to fall play when it competes at the Indiana University Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington which will be an all day event for three-straight days beginning Oct. 4.
