September 22, 2024 | Women's Golf
ÂÂÂGREENGILLE, S.C. - - Sophomore Madelyn Young closed play in the 50th Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman with a season-low score of E (72), leading a solid effort for the Ball State women's golf team on Sunday.
Â
"Madelyn played some great golf today," head coach Cameron Andry said. "Her driver was a weapon all day and she made the right decisions and executed well throughout the round."
Â
With her final-round effort, which was the lowest for the Cardinals over the three-day event, Young climbed 10 spots up the final leaderboard and finished tied for 42nd overall at +11 (227). She also tallied a team-high four birdies Sunday, finishing the tournament with a team-high eight.
Â
Junior Jasmine Driscoll was Ball State's top overall finisher, tying for 29th among the 74-golfer field with a score of +8 (224). Driscoll closed the tournament with a final-round score of +4 (76), including 14 pars, and finished the tournament second on the squad with six birdies.
Â
Overall, the Cardinals placed 10th among the 13-team field with a score of +40 (904). Ball State's final round +12 (300) tied its mark from the opening round and helped the squad maintain its current record-breaking pace for scoring average.
Â
"I am proud of the way we competed this week," Andry added. "It was a long week with six tournament rounds in six days. I thought we showed a lot of grit. We know we are capable of better, but there was a lot to be encouraged by."
Â
Xavier won the tournament on the 72 par, 6,262-yard Furman University Golf Course with a team score of -1 (863), while Western Kentucky placed second at +5 (869).
Â
With this week's effort, both at the 50th Lady Paladin Invitational and the Brittany Kelly Classic, the Cardinals maintain a 301 stroke average on the season. It's over two-and-a-half strokes better than last season's record-breaking effort of 303.61.
