
Gallagher Leads Women's Golf in Saturday Action

ÂÂÂGREENGILLE, S.C. - - Junior Sarah Gallagher carded three birdies over her opening six holes Saturday morning to lead the Ball State women's golf team on the second day of the 50th Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman.

Gallagher finished her second tour of the 72 par, 6,262-yard Furman University Golf Course with four total birdies to lead the Cardinals on the day with a score of +1 (73). The effort helped her climb 20 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 41st at +8 (152).

"Sarah played a really solid round with some strong ball striking and some excellent work on the greens," head coach Cameron Andry said. "Overall, we played some tremendous golf today, especially for the first 10-12 holes. Unfortunately, we made some costly mistakes over the last few holes."

Junior Jasmine Driscoll continues to lead the squad overall, following her opening-round +1 (73) with another strong showing at +3 (75) today. That puts her at +4 (148) for the tournament and in a tie for 26th among the 76-golfer field. Driscoll's day started with birdies on three of her first second holes, and finish with four overall to up her tournament total to six.

Sophomore JJ Gregston follows in 37th at +7 (151), including two birdies in each of her first two rounds. Gregston's Saturday birdies came on holes 12 and two.

The Cardinals also received three birdies from sophomore Madelyn Young and one from sophomore Madelin Boyd on the day. Young is tied for 52nd overall at +11 (155), while Boyd is tied for 60th at +13 (157).

As a team, the Cardinals dropped one spot to 10th despite carding 14 total birdies Saturday, compared to just five in Friday's opening round. Ball State is currently +28 (604) for the tournament. Xavier holds the overall lead at -1 (575), while UNCW is second at +1 (577).

Playing as an individual, sophomore Jenna Estravillo recorded nine more pars on Saturday, raising her tournament total to 19.
