Football Suffers Road Setback at No. 10 Miami
September 14, 2024 | Football
Coming off a debut performance last week that saw him produce 149 all-purpose yards and a pair of touchdowns, senior running back Braedon Sloan was one of few bright spots in the Cardinals offense. The Monticello, Kentucky, native paced Ball State in all-purpose yards (54) and registered the squad's longest offensive play of the night, a 20-yard reception on the opening drive.
Sloan was a key weapon in a Cardinals offense that was without starting wide receivers Ty Robinson and Justin Bowick, who were both sidelined due to injury.
Junior defensive back DD Snyder, a first-year starter, enjoyed a breakout afternoon on the defensive side of the ball, with a career-high six tackles and a critical pass breakup in the second quarter.
Ball State's defense held Miami's touted ground game in check during the first half, continuing the unit's success from a week ago. The red and white limited the Hurricanes' rushers to just 22 yards through the opening 30 minutes of play.
The Cardinals held Miami to a field goal on its opening drive, but the Hurricanes offense built momentum with each successive series over the course of the first half. The home squad uncorked three-straight touchdown passes in the final five minutes of the second frame, and carried a 31-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The scoring continued in the second half, as 31 points were added to the scoreboard in the third and fourth periods.
In the midst of the 100th season of Ball State football, the Cardinals travel to Central Michigan (1-2) next Saturday to open their 50th year in the Mid-American Conference. Kickoff between the Cardinals and Chippewas is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., with the contest set to air on ESPN+.
