Soccer Falls to Indiana at Home

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team's perfect start to the season came to an end as the Cardinals fell to the Hoosiers at home with a final score of 2-1.
The Ball State soccer team (1-1) met the Indiana Hoosiers (2-0) for the first time at Briner Sports Complex in an overall series that was tied 1-1-2 prior to Tuesday's matchup.
Indiana took little time early in the match to put the pressure on the Cardinals, scoring two goals in the first six minutes at the hands of Kennedy Neighbors and Haden Vlcek.
The Ball State defenders had their hands full as Indiana continued to look for opportunities to score. Junior midfielder Addie Chester attempted to get things going with a shot attempt in the seventh minute, which missed high left.
Chester would however score her first ever goal for the Cardinals in the 28th minute after the assist from freshman defender Ainsely Schaufele, closing the gap in the match and bringing the Cardinals within one goal.
This goal would cause a shift in momentum, as the Cardinals began to reverse the pressure onto the Hoosiers during the ladder part of the first half. Ball State was unable to capitalize, as Chester and Aleyna Quinn each missed a shot attempt in the closing seconds of the half in a race against the clock to tie the game.
The second half of play consisted of both teams fighting back and forth over control of the ball on both sides of the field.
The Cardinals fought to get shots going against the Hoosiers' defense, but the 2023 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year Jamie Gerstenberg would not allow anything to fall in Ball State's favor.
Ball State looks to bounce back as it travels to Indianapolis to play Butler on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
