CLEVELAND - - For her play throughout the 2023-24 season, Ball State sophomore women's golfer Sarah Gallagher has been named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team as voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Most recently, Gallagher closed the season by leading the squad and placing fourth at the 2024 MAC Championships held at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio, with a three-day score of +9 (225). It was Ball State's best individual effort at the MAC Championships since Jenna Hague tied for fourth in 2013 and the best individual score at the league meet since Hadley Moritz carded a +8 (224) in 2019. For her play, Gallagher was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team.
"Earning All-MAC honors is a great accomplishment and one that Sarah has earned through her incredible hard work over the years," head coach Cameron Andry said. "Sarah embodies what we want our program to be about. She is a fierce competitor with a relentless pursuit of reaching her best, all while being a great teammate. She leads with her steady, consistent attitude and effort on the course, in the weight room, and in the classroom. We are all incredibly happy for her and proud of her."
A competitor in all 31 rounds for the Cardinals, Gallagher finished the season with a 75.84 stroke average which is the sixth-best average in a season in program history. She played five of her 31 rounds at or below par, including season-lows of -1 (71) in the final round of the Diamante Intercollegiate (Oct. 22-24) and the opening round of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 23-25).
Gallagher earned her first career MAC Women's Golfer of the Week honor after leading the squad and tying for eighth at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational with a 54-hole total of -1 (215). It ties as the fourth-best individual 54-hole score in program history and included all three rounds at or below par.
Gallagher also led the Cardinals at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic (Sept. 25-27) at +8 (224) and was Ball State's second-best performer at both the Boilermaker Classic (Sept. 4-5) and the Puerto Rico Classic (March 5-7). She finished both of those tournaments at +9 (225).
In addition, Gallagher's play helped the Cardinals establish new program records for team stroke average (303.61), lowest team round (-3 / 285), lowest 36-hole day total (+8 / 584), and lowest 54-hole total (+1 / 865). She also carded two of Ball State's program record 14 total eagles on the year.
