TOLEDO, Ohio - The fourth-seeded Ball State men's tennis team wrapped up its 2024 spring season with a Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinal loss to top-seeded Western Michigan by a score of 4-2 Saturday morning which was held on the campus of Toledo.
The doubles point was a battle between the two rivals and the first point of the match could have gone either way, unfortunately the Broncos would take the 1-0 edge over the Cardinals after winning on courts one and three.
Mason Tran and Jacks Lancaster took down the No. 2 doubles tandem of Drew Evans and Benjamin George, 7-6 (7-1). The top spot of Nathaniel Webster and Vince Orlando was in overtime against Anton Arzhankin and Jackson Boone. Arzhankin and Boone would end up winning the match, 7-6 (7-0).
In singles, Western Michigan took wins on courts one, two and four to take the match and advance to Sunday's championship.
Jacks Lancaster along with Sajin Smith were winners for Ball State at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots in straight sets which earned BSU two points. Before play was abandoned Eli Herran had split frames on court No. 3 versus Boone and was up 3-1 in the third set.
The Ball State men's tennis team finished the season with an overall mark of 12-10 and a 6-4 Mid-American Conference ledger.
