Cardinals Clinch Series Win at WMU with 6-3 Decision

Ball State Going for Sweep at 1 p.m. on Sunday
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Ball State baseball team took down Western Michigan 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at Robert J. Bobb Stadium for its fifth straight win in Mid-American Conference play.
The Cardinals (25-14, 12-8 MAC) led 5-0 after a Michael Hallquist two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run rally in the third featuring a Blake Bevis two-run single followed by an RBI single from Dylan Grego.
The Broncos (20-16, 11-6) had single tallies in the third, sixth and seventh innings but wouldn't get closer than two runs after Matthew Kamins knocked in Bevis on a single in the eighth for the day's final scoring.
Keegan Johnson allowed two runs (one earned) in 5.1 innings of work with six strikeouts to earn the win and improve to 6-0 on the year. Sam Klein threw 3.2 innings of one-run ball (none earned) and struck out six to pick up his fourth save of 2024. Western's starter Nolan Vlcek (3-1) suffered the loss after surrendering five runs in 6.0 innings.
Bevis, Grego and Decker Scheffler each had a pair of hits for the Cardinals, who have now won 13 of their last 15 games. Hallquist's deep fly was his 14th of the year to break a tie with Hunter Dobbins for the team lead.
Ball State and WMU are scheduled to play the series finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
