Kentucky Transfer and Former Indiana Mr. Basketball Finalist Signs with Ball State
April 18, 2024 | Men's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State head basketball coach Michael Lewis has announced the transfer signing of Joey Hart, a former finalist as Indiana Mr. Basketball, who signed at Kentucky prior to his freshman season last year.
"Joey is someone I have followed from my first day on the job here," said Lewis who is preparing for his third season with the Cardinals. "He is an immediate impact perimeter player that we are very excited to add at Ball State."
Hart averaged 23.6 points and shot better than 40 percent from 3-point range while helping Linton-Stockton High School to the Class 2A State Finals as a senior in 2023. The Indiana All-Star finished his high school career with 1,901 points, 424 rebounds and 224 assists. Ball State was a finalist in his recruitment a year ago, prior to attending UK where he saw action in just seven games and nine minutes last season.
The 6-5 guard was one of six finalists for Indiana's Mr. Basketball award following his senior season at Linton-Stockton, along with his new Ball State teammates Zane Doughty and Mason Jones. Hart becomes the second transfer to sign with the Cardinals this month, following the announcement that Payton Sparks will return to Ball State via the transfer portal after spending the 2023-24 season at Indiana.
