Men’s Tennis Closes Out MAC Regular Season Action With 4-3 Win at UIC

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Ball State men's tennis team (12-9, 6-4 MAC) closed out its Mid-American Conference regular season with a 4-3 road win at Illinois-Chicago (10-11, 2-8 MAC) Sunday afternoon at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals started off strong against the Flames after winning a tightly contested doubles point that saw both courts two and three in tiebreakers. Eli Herran paired up with Sajin Smith to tally a 7-6 (7-5) victory against Gustavo Schwebel and Edoardo Bottino on court No. 3. Luckily, Ball State's No. 2 duo of Jacks Lancaster and Mason Tran were able to take down Robinson Le Meur and Aleska Bucan, 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Illinois-Chicago quickly knotted the match at 1-1 with a win at the No. 3 slot. After that, Smith beat Mikhail Savic at position No. 6, 6-3, 6-1 to put the Cardinals back up, 2-1.
Following Smith, the Flames tied the score for the second time 2-2 with a victory on court No. 4. But Lancaster answered after his 6-2, 6-4 defeat over UIC's Schwebel at the No. 5 position and Nathaniel Webster came through in a three-set thriller on the top court to seal match point for Ball State.
The Ball State men's tennis team will compete in the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament in Toledo, Ohio as the No. 4 seed on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET against top-seeded Western Michigan.
